Meet the Florist

New website, new look. There are definitely some new beginnings in sight for Hibiscus & Hodge this year!

I’m hoping you are looking at my work and liking what you see but you might be thinking who is this person I want to do my flowers. So, this little blog post is all about me.

Before 2017 I had never done any floristry and had never really planned to. After quitting an intense job that made me feel rubbish about myself I decided I needed to finally do something a bit more creative. I signed up to an introduction to floristry course and never looked back. Since then I’ve set up Hibiscus & Hodge flowers and completed a variety of weddings throughout the Southwest in places from Barns to Country Houses, marquees and many other places with lots more exciting ones in the pipeline.

But enough about work! Like most business owners I’m a bit of a workaholic. If I’m not actively creating something or catching upon all my admin then I’m always thinking about something work related. Living with a husband who’s a workaholic also doesn’t help either.

I’m a complete sucker for a home improvement shows like the great British interior design show and George Clarkes Old house new home (We do love George!) I’m currently renovating House no2 and try to do as much of it as possible myself or tell my husband to do it while I supervise. Ikea hacks and pinterest fails included I am probably the ultimate DIY’er. I’m not a fan of shopping, but tell me that we are off to shop for homewares and browse vintage stores then my bag is ready!

When working and in general lots of cups of tea and kisstory or absolute radio 90s is a must. Recently after complaining that I don’t like podcasts because I don’t enjoy people waffling their opinions at me, I have given in to listening podcasts while I work. Having completed a psychology degree means I love listening and learning about anything mindset and wellbeing related. After my experience of leaving a really shit working environment I’m also passionate about anything business related and try to support others in the same position with starting their own businesses over a cup of tea.

To relax I love reading most books unless they are horrors otherwise, I just end up scaring myself. We especially love eating out places and trying new foods. I’m not picky when it comes to food. Just keep me fed and watered and I’m happy. I love walking places and try to walk my invisible dog once a day and love taking spa breaks to recover from all the heavy lifting and backbreaking work involved in floristry. I’m just a low maintenance girl here who likes simple things! Give me a good book a beach and a refreshing drink and I’m happy…
