Maximizing Value for Money: A Guide to Wedding Flowers

Planning a wedding can be an expensive endeavour, and every penny counts when it comes to creating the perfect day. Wedding flowers are not cheap. Flowers are a luxury product, a good florist is an artist who is working with a natural product in a small-time frame, lately in extreme weather situations.  However, with some strategic planning and creativity, you can maximise the value of your arrangements to ensure you get good value for money.

Repurposing Flowers from Ceremony to Reception:

One smart way to work your floral budget is by repurposing flowers from the ceremony to the reception. Consider using arrangements from the altar as your table centrepiece for the top table or transferring pew decorations to adorn the reception venue. This not only reduces waste but also maximizes the use of your floral investments throughout the day. With some arrangements it is possible to use them for the ceremony, sit down wedding breakfast and evening reception. Talk to your florist about how you can best achieve this in your wedding venue.

Making Sure Your Floral Designs are Noticed:

When planning your floral arrangements, think strategically about where they will have the most impact. Place flowers in areas where guests are likely to spend the most time, such as the entrance, dining tables, and focal points like the cake table. By concentrating your floral designs in key areas, you ensure that they are noticed and appreciated by your guests.

A top tip is to visit your venue and walk through the space as you would a guest on the wedding day, as this will give you an idea of spaces to add flowers to.

Ensuring Your Floral Decorations will be Where You Spend the Most Time:

Another important consideration is to prioritize floral decorations in areas where you and your partner will be spending the most time.  Whether it's exchanging vows at the altar, enjoying your first meal together at the head table, or dancing the night away on the dance floor, make sure these spaces are adorned with beautiful blooms. This ensures that you and your guests are surrounded by the beauty of flowers during the most memorable moments of the day.

Remember that your guests will spend most of their time looking at you during the wedding day not looking at random tables in corners or up at ceilings, so keep you both as the focus for your wedding florals.

Ensuring Your Florals are Captured in Your Photographs:

Wedding photographs are cherished memories that last a lifetime, so it's essential to ensure your floral arrangements are captured in your pictures. An experienced florist will have seen lots of wedding galleries and will know the most common places and times of the day that photos will be taken.  The bests bits to flower up are the main wedding party, your ceremony backdrop/entrance, and the backdrop to where you are sitting during the wedding breakfast.

Remember your florist has lots of experiences with weddings. If you are unsure ask their opinion of what works in your venue.  Be transparent about your budget for flowers at the start of your consultation. If you are finding that what you would like is over your budget, don’t ghost your florist instead ask them what design changes can be made so you can keep flowers in these areas but also come in on budget. For instance, if you want a flower arch but are finding it’s pushing you over your budget you could still have an arch, but have it partially flowered instead alongside some draping.
