It was a cold December morning just before Christmas when I met with Ella’s Mum in the rural Heddington church to discuss wedding flowers. Ella and Jeremy both working and living in Australia joined us on a phone call to discuss what it was they were picturing for their floral scheme.

As is with most couples who were working and living abroad the majority of our communication happened by phone and email and I didn’t get a chance to meet Ella until she visited the Uk a couple of months before her wedding.

With family and guests coming from all over the world, Ella wanted to showcase the best of the English countryside right at home in her native Wiltshire describing to me a subtle English botanical scheme with the best of what was in season.

To authentically gain a true English botanical feel, I shyed away from the typical use of ferns and flowers you might find in a hot house and started looking at old English botanical prints in Vintage books for inspiration.

Ella really loved our natural bouquet style so I incorporated a wild and whimsical look into her bouquet and tied it with the most gorgeous natural and hand dyed silk ribbon from the Wiltshire based Botanical Dyer which floated beautifully in her outdoor photos.

Making the best of the churches features, window displays were decided upon and filled with branches of apple and pear (with the fruit on) for the foliage base of the arrangement tied in with some English box. Due to the nature of the typical unpredictable English Summertime I found on my foraging the first of the sloe Berries and threw some of them in too.

Naturally, Roses, Canterbury bells, delphiniums and the swirling tendrils of honeysuckle and sweet peas all came to mind along with Queen Annes lace. I also worked with local british growers to source cosmos wispy grasses and curling textures to add depth and movement to the arrangements.

Ella’s mum even planted up the entrance of the church to ensure that the borders were full of beautiful seasonal flowers for the couples’ grand entrance and exit.

The reception for the wedding was held at the beautiful Casterley Barn. On the way Ella & Jeremy stopped off for photos ontop of Roundway Hill which is impressive for its rippling landscapes. Here lovely couple shots were taken by Jessica Williams photography. Being photographers themselves Jeremy bought his own camera and captured a gorgeous shot of Ella which was their way of adding their very own personal touches to their wedding day.  I also happen to think that this is such a lovely way of creating a beautiful and romantic wedding keepsake.

In keeping with their English botanical vibes, Large trees were bought into decorate and fill the high ceilings of Casterley Barn. Bare trestle tables were erected and crockery, candles and vases were all hired from classic crockery. Ella and Jeremy chose a mixture of brass and cut crystal vases for their floral table centerpieces and tied this in with brass candlesticks, speckled brown plates and natural green linen to add some warmth and colour to the clean white palette of Casterley barn. This gave the feeling of bringing the outdoors inside and tied in beautifully with the natural colours in the country landscape around Casterley Barn.
