The Pinterest Pitfall.

Let's start with Pinterest. It's a treasure trove of inspiration, but it can also be a double-edged sword. While the myriad of floral designs might leave you breathless, it's essential to approach these visuals with a degree of realism. Remember, what you see on Pinterest is often the product of professional stylists, staged shoots, and photo editing magic as well as other things. (I have a whole new blog post to write on using Pinterest for planning your wedding florals and what to watch out for.)

Begin creating a vision.

Take a moment to envision your wedding's style and atmosphere. Are you dreaming of a whimsical garden affair or an elegant, formal celebration? Consider your colour palette, venue, and personal preferences. This mental blueprint will serve as your compass when navigating the floral landscape and are all great discussion topics to have with your florist.

Agree on your budget

Sit down with your partner and agree on what your budget is for flowers. Remember there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to budget. If you have no idea where to start with a floral budget start researching. Look at what packages florists offer, whether they have minimum spends and whether there are any price guides on their websites. Don’t generically google “how much do wedding flowers cost?! Or read any articles from generic wedding blogs. These articles are outdated and are usually written by someone with no experience of flowers. There are florists out there for every budget but you may have to be realistic with what you can have if your budget and vision do not align. Remember more flowers= more work = more logistics=more money.

Find your florist

Once you have outlined your vision, it's time to explore the work of florists. Invest your time in contacting florists whose style resonates with your vision and arrange a meeting with them. Don’t write a list of items you need and send it out to numerous florists. Price of arrangements can vary depending on a whole host of factors and there is a lot of additional logistics to think about when it comes to wedding florals which can affect costs of items. Chatting to a florist via phone or zoom is a much quicker route to being able to get an accurate quote and can ensure both parties are on the same page when it comes to the overall vision of the day. This hands-on approach will provide you a tangible sense of a florists artistry and expertise and gives you an opportunity to ask any questions.

The Importance of Trust and Communication

When you've found a floral artisan whose style aligns with your vision, trust their expertise. Share your inspirations, preferences, and budget openly. An experienced florist can offer invaluable insights, guiding you on flower selections, seasonal availability, and cost-effective alternatives without compromising your vision. While it's crucial to trust your florist, clear communication is equally essential. Instead of bombarding them with vague emails asking for costs based on limited details, provide as much information as possible. Share your wedding date, venue, the number of arrangements needed, preferred flowers (if any), and your overall budget range. This collaborative approach ensures that both you and your florist are on the same page from the outset.

Embrace creativity and flexibility.

Keep an open mind during the planning process. Your chosen florist might suggest unique blooms or design elements that complement your vision in unexpected ways. Flexibility allows for creative exploration and often leads to stunning, personalized arrangements that surpass the limitations of Pinterest inspiration and instead suit and reflect you as a couple.

Planning your wedding flowers is a delightful journey best approached with a balanced mix of inspiration and realism. While Pinterest can spark your imagination, your wedding day should reflect your unique style and personality. By investing time in finding a florist whose work speaks to you and fostering a relationship built on trust and communication, you'll create a floral magic enhances your special day but also blooms with memories for years to come.
