Pinterest Pitfalls- What to consider when using it to plan your wedding flowers

Pinterest has revolutionized wedding planning, offering couples a treasure trove of inspiration for every aspect of their big day, including the all-important wedding flowers. While Pinterest can be a fantastic tool for gathering ideas for your floral vision, it's essential to approach it with a discerning eye and a dose of realism. Here are some key things to be aware of when using Pinterest to plan your wedding flowers:

Reality vs. Expectation:

Pinterest is a haven for stunning, dreamy images of elaborate floral arrangements. However, it's crucial to remember that many of these images are of professional styled shoots or from weddings with substantial budgets. While you can draw inspiration from these images, keep in mind that your budget and venue may not allow for identical arrangements.

To consider whether your design is financially feasible, we can work closely with you to create a plan that aligns with your budget while still capturing the essence of your vision.

Seasonal Considerations:

Pinterest is a global platform, meaning that the images you see may not necessarily reflect what's in season in your area. Be mindful that some combinations of flowers in arrangements are impossible to have in the UK due to availability. Lots of images of arrangements on Pinterest are also of Faux flowers rather than real ones. Rather than expecting an exact replica of a Pinterest image, use it as a starting point for discussions about colours, textures, and overall style.

During your consultations we can look at what you have pinned  and can then tailor the  design to suit your taste and budget and work with what’s in season.

Practicality and Venue Considerations:

Logistics is the biggest factor in floral design. Some Pinterest-worthy floral installations may not be practical for your venue or may require additional setup time and resources.  Some venues also have restrictions on what and where you can put flowers.

Having worked at many venues across the Southwest we can offer valuable insight into what will work best in your chosen space.

Editing

While you may find arrangements and flowers on Pinterest that match the exact shade of your planned colour scheme, its important to remember that Photographers will often edit photos that end up on online. Therefore, the colours you see in an image may not reflect the actual colours seen by the naked eye. It’s also good to remember that flowers are a natural item and colour tones can vary between each stem. Be open to working with hues and tones around your colour palette and don’t stress too much about flowers matching the exact shade of your bridesmaid dresses and suits.  You don’t want your florals to disappear in photos.

As technology progresses the use of image-based AI is becoming more common online, meaning that some beautiful set ups you see online, are not even real!

DIY Pitfalls:

DIY projects are popular among couples looking to save money, but they can be more challenging than they appear on Pinterest. If you're considering creating your floral arrangements, be realistic about your skill level but more importantly about the time required.

Wedding flowers take a lot of time and usually involve work as close to the wedding as possible.

If you are going down the DIY route enlist the help of friends or family members, or consider a combination of DIY and professional arrangements.

While it's easy to get overwhelmed by the endless array of options on Pinterest, remember that your wedding should reflect your unique style and personality as a couple. Don't feel pressured to conform to trends or recreate someone else's wedding. Focus on what speaks to you and what will make your day truly memorable.

Pinterest can be a valuable tool for gathering ideas and inspiration for your wedding flowers, but it's essential to approach it thoughtfully and realistically. By keeping these considerations in mind and working closely with your florist, you can create stunning floral arrangements that perfectly complement you and your special day.
